so the weather continued to act like it was the end of the world still. but i decided i would still go to manly, like i meant to in february when it was sunny. so i fought through wind and rain and had perpetual wet feet in order to get there. the ferry wasn't running so i
got a replacement bus and the rain followed us there. i, basically, ran down the main street from the marina to the beach, getting piss wet through, before deciding that the cafe back at the marina looked the best bet. so i went back. and spent the next 1.5 hours watching people out of the window. it was most heart-warming, seeing people laugh out loud as they rounded the corner into the gale-force wind that almost blew them off their feet. it was such unfettered joy, it was so lovely to watch. and there were other moments that reassured you that mankind is basically benign, such as people ensuring little old ladies didn't get blown away across the road, a la mary poppins, and lasses shrieking as they made a run for it and blokes laughing as their caps got blown off and down the street or their brollies got blown inside out and small boys falling over as they were being dragged across the road by their dads. lovely.
so this is my last day in oz and i'm quite glad. can't cope with this weather for much longer, though i'm even less sure i can cope with the heat in bangkok. blimey. but i'm quite excited, getting my laundry done and choosing what to throw away and what to pack and all that. it seems aaaages since i was last on a plane and singapore airlines are supposed to be really good so free gin and tonics a-go-go. hurrah!
so the next report is back in the northern hemisphere and summer! ha!

Can't believe you've nearly completed your "world tour"! Keep having nightmares that you'll come back a completely different person now that you've gained all this "experience" - but then I read your blog and feel reassured by your familiar hatred of the "billabong" lot!
Had thought i could post a lengthy comment but Jamie's come in from playing out and is apparently "staaaaaaaaaaaarving" - can't be having the neighbours hear how I maltreat my son (?!) - must go find food....
love you lots

Just so you don't feel out of it, because I dont think anyone else will think of telling you, but its Fathers Day in the UK this coming Sunday 16 June 2007. However, it isnt Fathers Day in Thailand until 5 December, would you believe, (according to the Wikipedia) so I'll let you off this year! Maybe the others will remember.
The preparation of the kitchen is going on apace, the underlining of the wall paper is a b***** to get off, did some yesterday, your mum has done some as well, but the rest has to be done tonight. It'll be great when its finished.
About the rain you left behind in Sydney, thought you might like to know theres been dreadful flooding in Newcastle and Maitland in the Hunter Valley north of Sydney, 9 people killed, etc! And after all the talk about drought a couple of months ago, remember the controls on the shower rationing to three minutes! Anyway the monsoon seems to be holding off in Thailand, and watch out for illegal taxi drivers and dengue fever, hope you know the difference. Can you tell I have been scaring myself on the Lonely Planet website, look after yourself and keep in touch.
