and then the big stop came next - ramsay street. except they were filming today so we couldn't actually walk up the street. what a bummer. but the street isn't that big so you could see down it quite well. and apparently you're not allowed in the gardens anyway cos they're actually people's proper homes. i was remembering the scene where scott drives slowly by charlene walking up the street when she's mad at him for not disguising his writing about her mum in a story for the local paper and they're arguing all in their aussie accents. classic. we saw them filming a scene where someone drives a ute out of the street. fascinating. filming just seemed to involve a lot of standing about. and then on the drive back to the city we watched an andi peters documentary on neighbours whilst eating haribo. i didn't think it was really worth the amount of money we paid to go there, considering that you couldn't really see most of the things you wanted to. so i don't think i'll be going on the neighbours night on monday night. especially since now i've already met doctor karl. he's such a tourist whore. he was just soooo excited to meet everyone. what a weirdo. but i'm still quite glad that i've fulfilled a childhood dream. who'd have thought back in 1988 that i would have made it to ramsay street?

neighbours!
so today i made it to ramsay street! except it's actually called pin oak court. and it's actually really quite a normal suburban street. but i suppose that that is the point. we had to get up super early cos the special neighbours bus was coming for us at 8.20am. we were dead giddy, especially when they started playing kylie
and jason music videos on the dvd screens in the van. everyone in the street on their way to work was staring at the bus. i was on yet another special bus for special people. neighbours is filmed about 30km outside of sydney so we sat back and watched scott and charlene's wedding for the journey before getting to erinsborough high - or some random english language teaching school. but you could recognise some bits. i thought i might have trouble cos i've not really watched neighbours for about 15 years, but i still recalled those scenes when scott, charlene, jane and mike were all at school. and when scott failed his exams. and then we went on to the studios. it was a bit disappointing cos we couldn't walk about lassiters, just some garage and a diner that i don't remember. oh, and a bus stop. but then doctor karl came out, pretending to just be 'learning his lines' when clearly it was all arranged. but he was quite scarily good humoured about meeting a load of tourists. we all got the obligatory photo with him and an autograph. i actually wanted to see harold bishop - he's more my era - but i think i disguised my disappointment from doctor karl. in fact, i could have got a job on the show for my performance. i just went up to him and said v loudly at him 'hello doctor karl' and it did the job. in fact, he put his arm around me and pulled me into him. i think doctor karl likes groping tourists. we also saw susan driving into the set aswell but she didn't stop. good for her.

How disappointing, who'd have thought that Dr Karl would turn out to be a big old tourist groper? Gutted you didn't get to see Jelly Belly Bishop! I have started in Leeds, doing the nasty boneshaker commute ont train. It's entirely weird, especially since I have sod all to do other than organise my social life via email. You would be very proud of me, by the way, for this weekend I purchased the Most Beautiful Dress In The World. Hurrah! Made me think of you ;-)
Oh I am soooooo jealous! I LOVE Dr Karl! Oh I would have almost wet myself I think, especially if he had put his arm round me, oh wow. You are so lucky, stop moaning. Harold Bishop is just a rubbish old man but Dr Karl, he is like Bond - smooth, sophisticated and devilishly charming. I am well jealous.
Just been doing my usual trawl through the Internet before I finally get down to some work!!!
Have found the website for the Herald Sun Victoria Region (you moved across to Victoria when you went Melbourne - is it called a county or what?) and it would appear there was a earthquake on Thursday afternoon in some areas of Melbourne, measuring 3.5 on the Richter Scale! I want to know all about it, did you feel it, or did you even know there had been one? 'People in Northcote, Rowville, Canterbury(!), Ringwood, Croydon Hills, and Lilydale were reporting movement' according to the paper.
Anyway, Mum says you have got yourself a pass for the Grand Prix, what happened to the hire car idea? I will be taping it of course, because it is on in the middle of the night - maybe I might stay up and watch it live! I have got a map of the course off the Net so let me know where you will be watching from and I will look out for you..... zooooooooooom ....... weeeeeeeeeesh, if I'm lucky I might see you.
All that about Neighbours went over my head, I haven't watched it for years, when you think we had to watch it every teatime, and even raced back from St davids in Wales so you could watch it in the tent on the 3" portable battery set! But needless to say I have looked it up on the Net to see who Dr Karl is, and I might even watch it sometime to see what sort of bloke my daughter is meeting, I didn't know you had been watching it so recently.
The extension is coming along, the roof is on now, and we have a footpath along the back of the house across to the conservatory at long last, Jamie wants a little flower plot in front of the new room to replace the one that used to be by the back door! They will be starting the inside next week, demolishing the kitchen wall and then all the muck and dust!
no i didn't feel the earthquake. sorry about that, dad. i think we're going to stand near one of the 'best bends' for the grand prix. i'm going with a bloke called darren who seems to know what he's on about.
sorry to shatter the illusion but doctor karl looks a bit haggard up close. but he IS devilishly charming.
and, oh, how i wish i was in a position to be buying beautiful dresses. though i did get giddy the other day when i realised i could get loads of beautiful silk dresses made for me when in thailand. should come in handy for all the weddings i've got coming up. hurray!
