the office

bridget has taken a pic of her desk so i took a pic of mine. albeit a bit blurrily. i don't think mine is as good as hers. there's no mustard pot, for starters. just my bottle of water, my cup of tea and, behind the phone, my bag of mixed fruit and nuts. i got that in attempt to have healthy snacks - snacks being the new must-have now that i'm working. but i don't think it's working out. i mean, i don't think gillian mckeith meant to sit down and scoff the whole bag in an afternoon. not that i've done that, of course.

but almost.

i'm being reminded of what working is like again and the whole 'office' thing and being stuck with a random group of people who have nothing in common with each other. bridget's office looks like it has character. my office seems to be the same as offices the world over. quite like green flag, in fact. and the people are all the same aswell, with their various gossipings and stunted conversations where people realise they have nothing to say to each other. the big news in the office today is that nicky has had her baby. i don't know who nicky is but apparently she is overjoyed. they're calling it cate with a c. my god.

personality isn't really encouraged here in the world of recruitment. today was 'dress down friday', that most comedy of office days. except it was explained to me that we're not actually allowed to wear what we want. it's 'smart casual', which has mainly meant that people have just worn jeans with their formal shirts. the overall effect is quite amusing. i, however, have nothing but casual clothes, being a dirty backpacker, so am wearing my usual pathetic attempts at smartness...

I was reading about posture the other day. My boss thinks its important and we have fancy chairs that can be fitted to each different person. It was awesome - I was fitting my chair for 30mins!

Anyway one of the most common mistakes we make is to try to put things in front of the keyboard. The keyboard should be close to the edge of the desk with nothing in front. This is ensures the correct posture is maintained, resulting in a long and fruitful life.
